I run a range of training opportunities for professionals in the helping professions.

From July 2021 I am running a weekly series of ten two-hour online sessions on 'Understanding Bereaved Parents and Siblings.' The workshops are being hosted by and can be booked through onlinevents.

Online Sessions for Professionals

Train the Trainer Course

This 12-week course will provide a platform for the participants to begin to develop their identity as a trainer/facilitator. It will run one Monday morning a week 0930-1pm and starts in September 2021. 

The course will cover such topics as:

  • The role and responsibilities of being a trainer
  • The nature of the trainer/trainee relationship
  • Identifying learning styles
  • Theories of learning and education
  • Application of theory to practice
  • Assessment methods. 

The cost is £50 per session. The dates are: 13th September, 20th September, 27th September, 4th October, 11th October, 18th October, 1st November, 8th November, 15 November, 22nd November, 29th November and 6th December.

Course Learning Outcomes:

The role and responsibilities of being a trainer

By the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of being a trainer within their own setting.
  • Explain how to create and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Appreciate how power and personal history influences the training process.

The nature of the trainer/trainee relationship

By the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Understand the nature of the relationships between trainers and trainees within the professional/training setting.
  • Understand the importance of group cohesion in training. 
  • Explain the use of boundaries in the training setting. 

Identifying learning styles

By the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Use tools to identify different learning styles
  • To explain how they have/will develop their training to account for different styles
  • Understand their own learning preferences and how this may influence the learning experiences for others. 

Theories of learning and education

By the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Understand three theories of learning that influence their training
  • Demonstrate using those theories to practice
  • Explain how they intend to develop their teaching practice.

Application of theory to practice

By the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate how they apply theory to practice within the training session
  • Identify areas of growth and development
  • Reflect on their abilities as a trainer. 

Assessment methods

By the end of this module participants will be able to:

Explain which assessment methods would best suit the training they are providing

Create two assessment methods from existing or new material

Demonstrate how the chosen assessment methods work for that material.

Training Endorsement Workshop Preparation

This group meets monthly on a Friday morning 10am to 12noon.

The focus of the group will be on all aspects of the Training Endorsement Workshop (TEW) from developing and writing your Training Proposal Outline (TPO), to starting or developing your practice as a supervisor and trainer.

Each group will be agenda led depending on the needs of those who are present.

Cost £50 per session.

Dates are: 17 September, 8th October, 12th November, 3rd December, 4th February 2022, 4th March, 1st April, 6th May, 10th June and 8th July.
